Artist Statement
My most recent pieces are some from a series that reflect my interest in Chinese writing (calligraphy). Of special interest is the use of color over the surface, the experiences of mark making, of fusing marks with content, and of having the unexpected happening. I consider my artwork to be an experimental language. The constructions are three-dimensional wall pieces created from monotypes, relief prints and collage, which are then mounted on museum board and Gatorboard.
Bio
Thomas Majeski received his BFA in 1960 from the University of Omaha in Nebraska and his MFA in 1963 from the University of Iowa. He was a member of the Art and Art History faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for over 35 years and he has served as a Regents Professor and Chairman of the Department for nine years. Majeski has been a Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History since 1999. He has been actively involved in guest reseidencies and lectures internationally. His works are included in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Museum Voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp, Belgium; Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, Guangzhou, China and numerous other museums and universities across the United States.
